Chess Federation Holds Championship Closing And Awards Friday

The Liberia Chess Federation will this Friday, March 3, 2023 hold the closing ceremony of the national championship’s last edition with a formal honoring program.


The event is expected to bring together players and chess administrators from both present and past leaderships in order to celebrate the successful end of the championship last November and December.
In a chat with this paper, the president of the Federation, Thomas Karyah disclosed that the ceremony will also host the awards of the National Chess County Meet.


Karyah said the event’s honoring nature is to recognize the stakeholders and contributors’ effort applied for the growth and development of the game across the country.


According to him, while the awards for past tournaments under the Federation will be presented, top contributors’ high profile are expected to grace the occasion at the Federation’s headquarter on 9th Street Sinkor.


The honorees will include; the Chief Patron of Sports, President George Weah, Ministers of Finance Samuel D. Tweah, Youth and Sports Zoegar Wilson, Mines and Energy Gesler Murray, the Chief Executive Officer of Liberia National Road Fund Boniface Satu and the President of the University of Liberia, Dr. Sarwolo Nelson among others.


He further revealed that cooperate institutions and business heads that have partnered with the Federation over the years are also going to be presented certificates of awards. He named The United Bank of Africa and others as partners of the chess body.


Thomas Karyah however called on former administrators of the Federation and the Liberia Chess Association to turn up for the historical event along with veteran players of the mind-sport.
