The chairperson of the defunct Truth and Reconciliation (TRC), Jerome Verdier had been given a 72-hour ultimatum to retract statements linking police Inspector General, Patrick Sudue to the death of Matthew Innis.
According to the police, they will take civil action against Verdier if he does not abide by the ultimatum but 48 hours has elapsed already and there has been no word from the purported whistleblower Verdier whether countering or retracting his allegations.
Addressing a new conference on Monday at the LNP headquarters, the police spokesperson noted “We are using this platform to give Cllr. Verdier 72-hour to retract his statement against IG Sudue or he will face civil action as a means of protecting the institutions and character of IG Sudue.”
According to Moses Carter, the allegations against IG Sudue by Cllr. Verdier misinformed the public of an investigation that was concluded by the LNP in 2019 where the senior employee of the Central Bank of Liberia, Matthew Innis died.
Carter said the investigation surrounding the death was conducted and the investigative report was released to the public through the media at the headquarters of the LNP and at the Ministry of Information press conference.
“It is very unfortunate that Cllr. Verdier who formerly served as head of TRC who choose to make unfold statement allegations against IG Sudue of being involved with the death of employees Innis,” he expressed.
Meanwhile, the police have put aside a bounty of US$5,000 to anyone who will report useful information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of former CJ Scott’s daughter.
