Former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has condemned this week’s attack on former Chief Justice Gloria Scott which resulted into the killing of her young daughter.
The daughter of Justice Scott bled to death after being stabbed multiple times by a male attacker who had entered their home. Another daughter of Cllr. Scott sustained injury from the similar attack on last week Wednesday night.
In her Twitter post on Saturday, February 25, 2023, former President Sirleaf condemned “the killing of innocent civilians in Liberia.”
“The recent attacks on Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott, and the killing of innocent civilians in Liberia, including Ms. Scott’s daughter, are abhorrent. We must all condemn these actions, men and women alike; they have no place in our society,” she denounced.
The latest attack on the home of the former Chief Justice comes amid a string of attacks by robbers in various communities some of whom carry knives, cutlasses and even guns; a situation which has harbored fear of insecurity in various communities. The homes of several Judges have not been spared from attack without the perpetrators brought to book in recent times.
According to information gathered, former Chief Justice Scott made formal complaints of her attack which took place on February 8 and 9, 2023 without any action taken by the Liberia National Police.
The National Civil Society Council of Liberia (NCSCL) which is the apex body of all civil society organizations in the country, in a statement, called on the Liberia National Police (LNP) to ensure the expeditious arrest and prosecution of all persons linked to the callous murder and brutalization of the children of the former Chief Justice and Senator.
The CSO Council condemned the barbaric attack at the home of the former Chief Justice, stressing that the action of the attackers was premeditated and masterminded by some nefarious elements of darkness with the purpose of achieving a deadly end.
The CSO Council calls on Director-general Patrick Suddue of the Liberia National Police not to allow this case to linger on by the employment of foot-dragging tactics and strategies, but ensure that the perpetrators and their accomplices are apprehended and brought to book. “In this civilized world, there should be no room to harbor criminals and deadly masqueraders hiding under the cover of darkness to inflict harm and deprive peaceful people of their right to life, liberties and freedoms,” said the statement crafted under the signature of the Council’s Chairperson, Madam Loretta Alethea Pope-Kai.
“This kind of skewed and uncouth maneuvering only has the proclivity to disintegrate society into the world of the wild, where might means right and where the rich and the strong can manipulate their will against the poor and the weak, especially when left unchecked. We stand against travesty and we deplore acts of barbarism!” added the Council.
