The National Water, Sanitation and Hygiene and the Last Well have signed a memorandum of agreement for the importation, distribution and installation of Six Hundred Cartoons of Sawyer Water filters for five counties.
Montserrado, Margibi, Nimba, Lofa and River Gee are the counties expected to benefit from the memorandum of agreement.
According to the agreement, the wash commission is privileged to clear a forty-foot container from the Free Port of Monrovia.
The agreement signing ceremony in Bentol, brought together government officials, local and international partners and was launched by President of the Republic Liberia H. E. George Manneh Weah.
Launching the Montserrado Clean Water Project, President Weah commended the Last Well for the initiative and urged Liberians to exercise patience as the development partners bring relief to them. President Weah also commended WASH Chairman and CEO Amb. Whitfield for his leadership of the WASH sector.
The National Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Commission Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Ambassador Bobby Whitfield said the agreement is in the right direction.
According to him, the WASH Commission is statutorily charged to ensure that sanitary environment is created across Liberia.
The commission boss stressed that the pumps construction is a fundamental part of government Pro-poor agenda deliverables.
The WASH Commission’s boss acknowledged that WASH sector partners play a vital role in supporting government’s Pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development. However, he’s encouraging every WASH sector actor to respect the law. “As sector regulator and the principal government entity on WASH throughout the Republic of Liberia, the National WASH Commission will ensure full compliance with WASH regulations, policies, guidelines and standards”, said Amb. Whitfield.
He then assured that WASH would live within the stipulated timeline of the memorandum.
