The management of Cocopa Rubber Plantation has terminated the services of 100 employees with immediate effect.
Speaking to this paper at the plantation in Nimba County, the Human Resource Officer, Gondah Nenwah, explained that the 100 workers comprising of 57 full-time workers and 33 contractors were sacked in accordance with the Labor Law of Liberia.
What seemed to be a contrast was when Nenwah in his explanation disclosed that the management’s decision was as a result of its inability to settle the workers’ salary arrears coupled with other benefits.
Since the beginning of 2018, report of salary delays, benefits, rice distribution among the workers had been the order of the day and a common practice at the plantations.
Cocopa Rubber Plantations is among rubber companies operating in Liberia struggling to settle workers’ arrears.
A teacher of the school system alleged that the Cocopa Management owes workers for 15 months and named nurses at the clinic and teachers assigned at the various camp schools and staff as victims.
When this paper contacted the manager’s residence, one of his securities simply said that their Manager has left for Monrovia but will be back soon.
