President George Weah is expected to dedicate the newly constructed 100-bedroom Bopolu Hospital located in Bopolu, Gbarpolu County on Thursday, December 28, 2022.
The hospital is a goodwill gesture from the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to the Liberian government in an effort of meeting the health needs of the local population.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the project estimated at US$50 million was held on Thursday, January 21, 2021, in Bopolu, Gbarpolu and was done by Health Minister, Wilhelmina Jallah.
When dedicated, it will enhance the infrastructural development in the health sector and increase access to quality health care service deliverable not only in Gbarpolu but its surrounding Counties of Grand Cape Mount and Bomi.
The facility covers 52, 000 square feet, and powered solely by solar energy. Inpatient wards, modern laboratory, Operation Theater, Intensive Care Units (ICU), internal medicine and pulmonologist department plus many more, set the facility apart.
Weah secured the bilateral gestures of goodwill from United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the construction of three more hospitals, ports development, rice production, and others.
The additional three hospitals will be constructed in the southeast, northern, and central region of the country, while the ports of Greenville and Harper perhaps are benefitting from the Emirate’s initiative.
Though locals in the western region, namely Gbarpolu, Bomi and Grand Cape Mount are enthusiastic about the new health facilities but access to road network from Tubmanburg or Monrovia has become their worry.
However, there are reports that the Public Works Ministry alongside some contractors are reconditioning the roads from Brewerville to Tubmanburg ahead of the dedicatory ceremony in Bopolu next week Thursday.
