As the heat of the nation’s biggest sports jamboree blows the country across all the hosting venues, teams representing the fifteen political subdivisions of Liberia have begun showcasing sportsmanship at professional levels.
With the launch on December 17, 2022 in Grand Bassa County followed by opening matches in Lofa, Bong and Maryland Counties, the results gathered so far have stirred supporters’ interests to keenly follow the nearly one month event.
Grand Bassa could not withstand the pressure from River Cess County who narrowly collected the very first win in the 2022/23 edition of the NCSM at the Doris Williams Sports Pitch in Buchanan City while Cape Mount and Grand Gedeh shared points at a 2-2 draw at the same venue.
At the David Kuyon Sports Pitch; Bong and Margibi could not give each other any opportunity to take any lead as they both settled to a goalless draw in Group B with Gbarpolu collecting all three points from a 2-0 win over Sinoe County.
Lofa County became a center of attraction as fans and supporters of the defending champions filled the stadium joining Lofaians to witness the clash between the former champions Lofa and the current champions, Nimba.
It did not augur well for the current title holders as they were resisted harshly by the host of Group B, an action that has taken appeal to the relevant committee.
Defending champions, Nimba County has reportedly filed a protest against group B host, Lofa at the National County Sports Meet for allegedly featuring illegal players.
It was a bad start for the boys of Nimba in their opening phase of 2022/23 campaign when the Wologizi grounds at the Voinjama Sports pitch welcomed them to the competition with a first 2-1 defeat over the weekend.
Accordingly, the steering committee of Nimba County filed a protest on ground of allegation that Lofa County featured players of foreign nationality though the accused names have not been made public.
Insiders at the level of the National County Sports Meet have revealed that the matter is being investigated and will be communicated to the public on the outcome subsequently.
