ICC Denies Local Newspaper Report

The office of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has refuted media reports linking the Liberian leader to ‘State sponsored terrorism and election violence.’
In a letter dated on August 7, which was in response to the Executive Mansion’s inquiry of the allegation to the ICC, the International Court with immediate effect denied ever linking the Liberian leader to such crime.
“With reference to the mentioned article, the Office of the Prosecutor of International Criminal Court denied such unfounded allegations. The writer must have taken the quotes from the Prosecutor’s statement of December 20, 2018, in relation to the situation in the DRC and by so doing, created this unfortunate and misleading story,” the ICC statement stated.
The ICC believes that it was responsible on the part of any media alert to verify their article before publication and wants reliance if any pointing out, “We hope this response clarifies your question. Should you need further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.”
Meanwhile, the Executive Mansion which earlier expressed concerns over the media publication had called on the ICC to at least clarify the report.
In a letter addressed to the ICC Chief Prosecutor, Presidential Press Secretary Isaac Solo Kelgbeh, said the article has demonstrated a serious embarrassment to the office of the President.
Below is an excerpt of the Presidential Press Secretary’s letter to the chief prosecutor: “My inquiry comes from a report in the Vol. 4 #974 of the Tuesday August 6, 2019 edition of a local Newspaper. The paper quoted the Solicitor General of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Fatou Bensouda of threats to prosecute President Weah and Jefferson Koijee for the above stated reasons. The Solicitor General was also quoted by Global Afrique online magazine.”
“Please provide clarity through this medium or whatever medium you deem necessary as to whether or not this accusation is true,” the communication averred.
