The deplorable road condition along the Sanniquellie-Yekepa highway is hampering free movements which is creating serious hardship among the residents in Nimba County.

Speaking to this paper in Zorgowee Town in District 3, Madam Rebecca Dahn explained how bad the road  between Sanniquellie and Yekepa is to the extent that it is becoming impassible for residents most especially marketers coming from Gbellay Geh District into Sanniquellie Mah.

Madam Dahn lamented that if nothing is done to recondition that major highway there could be untimely deaths for residents living in towns and villages along the routes between Sanniquellie Mah and the Gbellay Geh areas.

According to Madam Dahn, because of the bad roads, marketers from Ganta are no more coming to buy local agriculture commodities in towns along the Yekepa belt.

Elder William Troh frowned at the government for allegedly failing to enforce the MDA signed several years ago with the company to reconstruct that stretch of road from Yekepa to Ganta couple with the constructions of 2,900 housing units for the workers respectively.

The bad road leading from Sanniquellie to the concession site in Yekepa is preventing free flow of traffic and movements for many of the residents including those doing business in Yekepa.

Since the beginning of November 2022, there have been reports of stranded vehicles in the mud along the Yekepa highway.

Over the weekend, Elder Jerry Winpea, disclosed that the bad road between Yekepa to Sanniquellie is obstructing even the MOH ambulance from transporting critical patients from Gbellay Geh Health Center to the government referral Hospitals like the G.W Harley in Sanniquellie and the Ganta United Methodist in Ganta.

Huge number of vehicles have been stranded in the mud since last weekend awaiting help from the Chinese road building equipment that usually pull out stranded vehicles from the mud.

There central office of ArcellorMittal steel company in Yekepa as well the government’s Ministry of Public Works resident engineers in the county seem to be making no effort to ease the commuting stress the bad road is posing.
