Players Boycott Professional Contracts For County Meet

Liberian clubs have begun reporting and suspending players for violating the guidelines in order to feature in county meet preparation activities.


According to reports gathered, some players have started boycotting their various contracts with clubs in order to practice on some county teams as the National County Sports Meet approaches.


The County Meet as the greatest sporting festival in Liberia seems to be attractive to players and the clubs’ constitutions reportedly binds its players from featuring in the competition.


According to our sources, some players will request from their team authorities excuses to recover on grounds that they have some health complications and challenges.


Providing hints to the report, several technicians at the Liberia Football Association managing mostly first and second division teams said their players instead of going for treatment to health facilities rather go to football fields outside Montserrado to practice for desiring counties.


In recent times, two teams were suspended, four players in the LFA 1st division league for actions termed as breach of contract and constitutional violations to clubs.


Cece United has with immediate effect nailed three of its respected players and the Liberia Shipping Cooperate Registry (LISCR) suspended its Contending Most Valuable Player for similar act; and the teams prohibit its players from participating in commercial and other sporting events without management’s consent.


Effecting a three-month suspension, LISCRI wrote on its social media page “LISCR Football Club has with immediate effect suspended Sheku Sheriff for three months without salary for several breaches of contract.”


Sheriff that is one of the three final nominees for the 2021/22 league season Most Valuable Player award was spotted off duty playing for Grand Bassa against Lofa in a friendly encounter, according to the club.


For Cece United’s Francis Doe, Delton kollie and Sekou Kanneh who are all suspended for one month each were also involved in anticipating matches across the country for the upcoming county meet campaign.
