Churches Call For Restraint, Condemns Violence

The Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) has called on political actors, including supporters to remain calm- cautioning everyone to allow the National Elections Commission to release the just ended District #15 Representative results.
In a release issued in Monrovia yesterday, LCC Executive Committee has called on all political actors to immediately refrain from negative behaviors-noting that inflammatory assertions do not augur well for the nation’s young democracy.
In a press statement signed by LCC, Rev. D Jensen Seynkulo, LCC condemned on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 the Violence that erupted between Liberty Party’s partisans and ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).
“We call on all parties, in the strongest terms, including the Electorates, Opposition Parties and the Ruling Party to remain calm and peaceful, as we await the final announcement of the results of the just ended By-Election by the National Elections Commission,” LCC said.
Adding, “In a strongest possible manner, the LCC condemns all violence, including the post-elections violence on Wednesday, July 31, 2019. The LCC further denounces all inflammatory remarks made against political actors in these Elections. The LCC believes that these actions have the propensity to undermine the peace and security of the State,” Rev. Seyenkulo noted.
The LCC also called on NEC to work expeditiously in releasing the results in a timely manner to avoid an increase in the ongoing tension and misinformation.
The Council then reminded all citizens and residents that it has worked over the years to ensure that peace prevails in our beloved country, and has continued to pray and work relentlessly to sustain and consolidate same. It reiterated its call on all citizens and residents of Liberia, near and far, to remain peaceful and work toward sustaining the hard earned peace that we now enjoy, and work towards the development and advancement of Liberia.
