Award In Memory Of Wesseh

The University of Liberia’s authorities have announced the Academic Excellence Journalism Award in memory of a statesman and icon of print journalism, Philip N. Wesseh.


The establishment in honor of an alumnus and a part-time instructor of the University from where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communication in 2002 and a Law degree in 2011.
He practiced as a professional journalist for 41 unbroken years and rose from reporter to managing editor.


According to a recent statement issued by the University in Monrovia, Wesseh was one of the “academic stars” at the Department of Communications and Media Studies (formerly Department of Mass Communication) having demonstrated his ability to perform, achieve and meaningfully excel in scholastic activities, evidenced by achieving high grades and superior performance in his class.


The annual award: “Philip N. Wesseh Academic Excellence Journalism Award,” the statement said has been established in the Department of Communication and Media Studies at the Professor Amos C. Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Liberia.


Annually, the academic leadership of the College will bestow on any student who academically performs, achieves high distinction and excels in scholastic works of the “Philip N. Wesseh Academic Excellence Journalism Award.”


The award, according to the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Josephus Moses Gray goes with other benefits including overseas scholarships or local Master of Arts studies at the University of Liberia Graduate School under the sponsorship of the University of Liberia.
