Liberian Students stranded In Morocco

Several of the Liberian students stranded in Morocco are demanding the Government of Liberia to pay over their monthly allowances and benefits owed them since they arrived in Morocco.
Seven of the students are the 2017-2018 excellence performers of the WACSSE which the Liberian leader, President George M. Weah awarded scholarships to do their under graduate studies in Morocco, but are said to be living in a deplorable living condition, with some of them put out of their apartments for failure to pay their rent.
Expressing their anger over the failure of the Liberian government to pay their monthly allowance, the students blamed President Weah for putting them at risk by neglecting them in Morocco. “We are disturbed over the failure of President Weah to pay our allowances; some of us live hours away from campus, and we pay 36 Duran which is about US$8 to US$9 daily to commute to school,” one of the male students stated.
There are more than 52 Liberian students studying in Morocco, but the living condition faced by most of them have led them to openly express their anger by assembling at the Liberian Embassy in Morocco, where the students demanded the Liberian leader to make real his pledge to have them in school in Morocco.
The aggrieved students, predominantly teenagers, want all of their benefits for the ten months paid. Peter Kollie, one of the duxes of the 2017-2018 WACSSE said, if the Government fails to pay their allowances this week, they won’t be allowed in Morocco. Holding a flyer, “Mr. President, your WACSSE students are suffering, while Peter who graduated from the St. Matthew Catholic School, cried that they were abandoned by the President.
Another female student, Amelia T. Dahn said, they have been in Morocco for about ten months without allowances and benefits and is therefore calling on President Weah to at least see the need to settle the financial burden which has left them vulnerable. The students assembled at the Liberian Embassy with their personal utensils including beddings and mattresses demanding their allowances and benefits.
