Gbowee Indicts Religious, Traditional Leaders …says They Are “partisans & Praise -singers”

The founder of the Leymah Gbowee Foundation has indicted Liberia’s religious leaders alleging that they are in the constant habit of fooling Liberian leaders from generations to generations; an action she said have contributed to misrule and missteps of ‘Our current and the past leaders.’
In her Independence Day message delivered at the Samuel K. Doe on July 26, Madam Gbowee accused Liberian leaders of fooling religious and traditional leaders while bishops have become partisans and pastors as well as Imams have become praise singers.
“Traditional leaders have repeatedly twisted our cultural practices to please a powerful few; giving unmerited traditional titles. It’s time for us to bring truth back into the national history,” she recalled.
She said religious leaders must speak truth to Liberian leaders; adding that the direction and redemption of this country depends on the Liberia Council of Churches and all religious leaders are to play pivotal role in ensuring that there is peace and stability.
In a separate news, Madam Gbowee described as unacceptable for Liberia Feminist-in-Chief to have only two women in the cabinet, stating that women are as educated and intelligence as compared to their male counterparts.
She said for Liberia to move forward together, “We must recognize that men as well as women; the blind, the physically challenged and the youth groups are equal parts of the society. Mr. President, I will address this to you directly. It is not acceptable for us to have only two women in cabinet. I, Leymah Roberta Gbowee, Nobel Laureate challenge any Liberian to tell me that the men in this country are smarter than the women, hence the men should be given prominence in jobs and elected position,” she stated.
“I believe that it is high time that the women who fought through tears and blood from the founding of this country to the bringing of peace to this nation should be given positions of leadership based on their competence. As a self-declared Feminist-in-Chief, you are being called out to walk your talk. It’s time to stop the old boy’s network,” the 172nd Independence Day orator declared.
“Liberia is our “Land of liberty.” The reality is that despite our differences, this is our home and we share a common duty to move Liberia forward by taking responsibility as civilians and not expecting government to take on the tasks that are in our own hands. A typical example could be taxi drivers putting bags in their cars to help passengers stop throwing rubbish in the streets. We, all 4.5 million of us, are called to use our unique gifts and talents in service of Mother Liberia.”
