Rehab Patients Stage Road Block In Ganta

Patients undergoing medical treatment for various skin diseases at the Rehab Center in Ganta recently staged a road block on the main Ganta-Sanniquellie Highway in demand of drugs, food and nurses to cater to them.
One of the Burundi ulcer patients at the center accused the current nurses of not treating the wounds on their feet and that is creating serious problem in their recovery
Another leprosy patient added that because of the alleged drugs shortage, patients are being compelled to buy their own drugs from street drug sellers and drugs store at high costs.
Since the beginning of 2020 news of people suffering from TB, ulcer and leprosy couple with other skin related diseases has been pouring from that health center in the wake of the health crisis regarding drugs shortages at the various government-operated hospitals in Nimba County.
The Rehab is sponsor by the Ministry of Health in collaboration the Catholic Dioceses of Monrovia but the alleged reports of mismanagement of funds provided by the donors is contributing to the hindrance in the smooth running of the center in Ganta.
The Ganta Rehab is a recognized treatment center for people suffering from various kinds of skin diseases such as Burundi ulcer, leprosy, TB among others but the facility is gradually been taken over by bush and other living creatures.
During a normal routine at the Rehab compound on August 22, 2022, it was observed that the entire compound has turned into a farmland and it is practically deserted.
When this paper contacted the administrative wing at the Rehab, the building hosting the staff working with nurses was closed up to press time.
