The Liberian Senate has agreed to summon the authority of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) to respond to inquiries from the August body.
As part of the decision, the management of LEC is expected to appear before the Committee of Whole to respond to the Committee’s inquiries on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 1.00 P.M.
Plenary’ decision on Friday, August 19,2022, was trigged by Montserrado Senator, Abraham Darius Dillon’s letter in which he craved his colleagues to cite LEC Authority to explain happenings at the institution.
The call which was endorsed by plenary is intended for LEC’s management to explain happenings at the Corporation with regards to the expiration of the Management Services Contract of the ESBI since July 20, 2022.
Senator, Abraham Darius informed Plenary of the departure of all ESBI team members from the country without any report presented to Senate Plenary in order to know the current status of the LEC, and why they left the company.
The communication further stated that the team members were allegedly paid US$22.7 million of public monies in five years for management service contract fees.
In Dillon’s observation, LEC Authority was also given US$14.7 million under the Millennium Challenge Compact headed by Mr. Monie R. Captan as Head of the Compact and US$8 million under the World Bank LESSAP Project.
An amount, according to the statement, is supposed to fill in areas that the Bank’s project through LEC could not cover under the first two projects LACEEP and LACEEP-AF in Margibi, Montserrado, Bomi and Cape Mount Counties respectively.
