Chest Federation Conducts Public Display
…Seeks More Women Involvement

The Liberia Chess Federation has conducted a day-long public display session in commemoration of International Chess Day.
The day which was observed yesterday for the first time in the history of Chess around the world, was also commemorated in Liberia with local chest administrators calling on more women to get involve with the game as a means of promoting gender balance in sports.
Addressing newsmen, the Federation’s President, Thomas Karyah described the game as a mind game that will help develop the intellectual ability of young Liberians.
Karyah lamented that this year’s World Chess Day celebration was aimed at boosting the involvement of more women across the world.

“The message for this year’s Chest Day for Liberia is get a lady Involved. It can be any women so we can deal with the struggle or barriers that are keeping them away from the game,” the Chess President stated.
According to him, there are many benefits that chest as a game brings to the country, which he said, makes it important for the celebration of Chess Day.
“Chess promotes the rule of law and tolerance that compel citizens to be law abiding. It also has an immense contribution to socio economic progress by building the capacity of players,” he said
Placing emphasis on how sportsmanship tackles relief on humans, President Karyah noted that other sports will be concerned with the fitness and hard exercise of athletes while Chess will focus on the soft side.
“Areas where you have to make hard choices when it comes to decisions, the game of Chess will elevate your mental strength and comes up with the best solutions,” he added.
The Federation conducted the day-long public display activity at the Invincible Sports Park Wednesday, July 20 where young and passionate Liberians gathered to get first-hand knowledge about the sport.
During the celebration, talented and senior chess players from both national and international levels were seen conducting the training for new comers.
Some were engaged with the new comers by explaining the rules of the game, tactics and other necessary moves as required by the game as well as the basic jargons used by chess players around the world.
Meanwhile, a 14-man delegation is expected to depart Liberia for the World Chess Olympic in India on July 25, 2022.
President Karyah disclosed that the delegation is a full team of men and women who are expected to compete with the other federations from across the globe at the occasion from the 28 of July to 5th of August.
