Senate Confirms Coker-Collins
As Public Works Minister

The Liberian Senate has confirmed Madam Ruth Coker Collins as Minister of Public Works. On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, the Senate Committee on Public Works and Rural Development recommended that the nominee for the post of Minister of Public Works be confirmed, but the plenary placed a hold on her confirmation on grounds that the Committee failed to present performance report as part of the criteria to be endorsed by the Senate regarding nominees who have served and are being re-nominated.
The Plenary then voted unanimously to confirm Coker-Collins as Minister after several senators acknowledged receipt of a performance report from the Committee on Public Works and Rural Development chaired by Bomi County Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe.
In a related development, the Liberian Senate has for the second time placed a “hold” on the confirmation of the Deputy Auditor General for Audit Services-Designate of the General Auditing Commission (GAC), Winsley S. Nanka, based on the failure of the joint Committee on Autonomous Commission & Agencies and Public Accounts & Audits to submit performance report on the nominee.
Notwithstanding, the Committee has promised to provide performance report to the plenary for the nominee today, Monday, June 27, 2022.
