President Weah has suspended the Director-General, Edwin N. Dennis and asked that he immediately report to the Office of the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs. The premises of the National Bureau of Concessions (NBC) was again a scene of drama when the Director General, Edwin Dennis announced the dismissal of his Deputy Director for Administration, Nathaniel Bracewell with immediate effect.
But the Deputy Director for Administration challenged the decision; saying that he can only be taken off the job by the President of Liberia on grounds that he too is a Presidential appointee.
The NBC boss is said to have taken the administrative stance despite the power to appoint and dismiss a government appointee exclusively rests with the Liberian Presidency in consonance with the 1986 Constitution.
According to the dismissal letter, Mr. Dennis accused his deputy of taking what he described as an undeserved salary and has failed to restitute the said monies.
However, following Dennis’ decision on Monday, serious tension broke up at the NBC when he ordered the security not to allow Mr. Bracewell entry into the premises.
Speaking to a team of journalists on the scene, the now embattled NBC’s DG, Bracewell vowed to keep reporting to work, thus describing his boss’ decision as being quasi while at the same time, accusing Mr. Dennis of being one of the problematic officials in the government.
Bracewell disclosed that his boss has reportedly been using ladies working at the NBC to spew lies on him which led to the intervention of President George Weah but when the investigation conducted, he was found not guilty.
The embattled NBC’s DG in a very strong tone, stressed that as long as he has not received any formal communication from the Liberian leader, he will continue to serve in the capacity because he is being paid with taxpayers’ money.
Meanwhile, President Weah has warned all public officials to immediately refrain from exercising any powers, functions, and duties assigned to the President of Liberia and to act within the confines of their authorities.
President Weah sounded the warning on Monday, April 18, 2022, when he voided the termination letter of the Deputy Director-General of the National Bureau of Concessions, Nathaniel Bracewell.
The Liberian leader described the action by the Director-General of the National Bureau of Concessions, Mr. Edwin N. Dennis to terminate the services of Mr. Bracewell as arbitrary and without due regard to the Office of the President. Dr. Weah termed the dismissal as null and void.
In the absence of Mr. Dennis, the Deputy Director-General for Administration will act as Head of the National Bureau of Concessions.
