The Board Chairman of the Liberia Airport Authority, Dr. Musa Shannon says power outage which has placed the Airport management in the media for the wrong reason has been resolved or come under control.
The clarity came barely 24hours after former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf threw jibes at the Weah-Taylor’s administration; stating that more foreign guests didn’t attend the late former President, Dr. Amos Sawyer’s state funeral held on Saturday, April 2, in Monrovia because of the darkness of the airport.
Prior to former President Sirleaf’s jibes, the management of the RIA welcomed back President George Manneh Weah from Dubai in darkness and said decision by the AIR Authority was attributed to power outage.
Dr. Shannon, addressing the Executive Mansion Reporters yesterday, registered that what is happening at the airport now is an old issue apparently inherited from former Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf’s administration.
“The issue at the RIA is historical. I say it is historical because it is inherited by this administration. But the good news now is, the Power outage issue at the Airport has come under control. We can assure the public that we are working tirelessly in ensuring that RIA’s historical challenges are addressed,” Dr. Shannon stated.
He told the news conference that with the help of President George Weah through the Minister of Finance, Samuel Tweah and the Minister of State of Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel McGill, “Power outage at the airport and the experience the management had over the past weeks is under control.”
He added that what the management of the RIA with support from President George Weah is now looking into is the future to resolving some historical issues by bringing in solar-panel and other technical pieces of equipment intended to resolve the decades of problem.
For an immediate priority, Minister of State, Nathaniel McGill asserted that a special cabinet team will be set up aimed at mitigating the ongoing problem.
He spoke about working on air navigation which he said has not been renewed for nearly three decades; the improvement of a stable electricity including another source of power such as solar system as well as increase in power systems among others.
