The roads connecting Nimba to Grand Gedeh have of late been an impediment to vehicles plying that route due to its deplorable condition.
Since the beginning of the raining season, motorists had found it difficult to ply the route that is said to be under construction.
Residents along the route from Kpatuo Township are aiding drivers by pushing vehicles on an arrangement of ‘work and pay’ to enable them cross over to other towns due to the muddy areas on the road.
It can be recalled that on Friday, October 8, 2021, several commercial vehicles including trucks got stuck in the mud in Kpatuo while attempting to cross as the road has been disconnected from other cities in Nimba; a situation which is being described by residents as a serious embarrassment.
That highway connects several cities in Nimba County including Saclepea, Tappita and others to the Southeastern region including the Greenville and Harper Port.
As a result of the situation, commercial vehicles leaving Nimba to Grand Gedeh are now charging LD 15, 000 and above as the stipulated price set up by the government through the Ministry of Transport.
Most travelers leaving Nimba to Grand Gedeh are using motorcycles to pass through Kparblee District to get to Gblor Dialah Town Clan in lower Nimba before using the main Nimba-Grand Gedeh Highway to get to Zwedru.
In the past when roads were at least good, passengers leaving Ganta to Zwedru were charged LD 6, 000 while motorcyclists paid LD 7, 000 respectively.
Besides, the deplorable road condition in the county, local residents in Tappita are now buying a 25 kg bag of rice for LD 3, 500 and LD 4, 000 a bag in towns along the Tappita belt; a situation that is creating serious hardship on citizens in the district.
