The Bishop of the Independent Catholic Church of Liberia (ICCL), Nimely Jacbokly Donyen has given a new market building to the people of Nimba Community in the Township of Johnsonville.
The huge market structure which is believed to be the only market building in the area is expected to also benefit residents of the adjacent communities like Mount Barclay, New Israel including Geewloh, Luwo among other communities.
Speaking at the dedicatory and presentation ceremony which was held over the weekend, Bishop Donyen disclosed that he was gratified because his partnership with the Compassion for Life, an American Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has again positively responded to a request that was made to him by the leadership of the Nimba United Community in District 2, Montserrado County.
He said that the Nimba United Market Building is the tenth market building that he has built in the district saying that all the projects that he has been carrying out are been funded by the Compassion for Life which he referred to as his chief sponsor.
According to him, they funded the construction of the Rehab, Nickley Town including Pepper Wlue Town Markets just to mention few and that they also funded several other projects; the Rehab water project, construction of wooden bridges and rendering of sanitation services at market places as well as the rehabilitation of community roads among other services.
Bishop Donyen told the residents of the area who were expressing their excitement for the new market by dancing to traditional songs that the building is the gift from God adding that they asked for it so his partners provided the funds.
“The market building is for the community without any cost attached. Do not allow people to convince you so that they can get money from you,” he urged them.
The ICCL Clergyman who was gowned by the people as a show of gratitude for his numerous contributions toward their lives urged the community dwellers to always remember people who will come to their aid in time of needs.
Responding to the gesture, the Chairlady of the market, Hawa Massalley lauded Bishop Donyen and the Compassion for Life for providing the new market for the community describing the humanitarian gesture as timely.
She stated further that the construction of the market has brought additional relief to them as they used to sell on sidewalks in the rain and during scorching sun saying that some of her colleagues will now remain in the community to do their business that will surely relieve them of transportation cost.
Madam Massalley then encouraged all marketers so that they can take good care of the structure and assured Bishop Donyen that they will not forget about the marvelous gift they have received.
Jackson C. Nyenpan, Chairman of Chairmen, Township of Johnsonville commended Bishop Donyen and partners for their sustained effort aimed at carrying out projects that are always affecting the lives of people in the communities.
He alluded to the provision of Ebola, Coronavirus preventative materials, micro loan to marketers, scholarships to students including the construction of market buildings in various communities in District 2, Montserrado County.
James W. Volar, Chairman of the Red Hill Community where the Bishop resides, told the gathering that he is a witness to the Bishop’s humanitarian gestures, stressing that whenever he stretches his hands to any community and whatever project he promises can be realized.
For his part, Borkar D. Biah, Elder referred to Bishop Donyen as ‘talk and do’ because according to him, they have written many well-placed personalities in the country with neither any reply to their request nor even went to their aid.
“When we went to the Bishop and asked him to help build our market building, he promised that he would respond to our request at a later date and surprisingly, he brought the engineers to break the ground for the commencement of the project few days later and completed the project less than a month,” he explained.
